The CDBS or Child Dental Benefits Schedule is intended to benefit children ages 0-17 years who receive Government Benefits. If your children are qualified, they can receive up to $1,095 at any point in the calendar year for preventative and restorative dentistry, such as:

• Fissure sealing
• Fillings
• Root canals
• Extractions

The CDBS, or Child Dental Benefits Schedule, does not cover cosmetic dental work, orthodontics, or hospital procedures.

Is Your Child Eligible for a Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

Here at My Local Dentists West Ryde, we bulk-bill all dental treatments for children covered under the CBDS scheme.

A child is eligible if they are:

• Eligible for Medicare,
• aged 0-17 years in the calendar year,
• Receive appropriate Australian government payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, anytime during the calendar year.

Services Australia assesses a child’s eligibility from the start of each calendar year and routinely checks for newly eligible children.

A notification of eligibility will be issued to the child or their parent/guardian via MyGov, either by mail or electronically.

For a parent/guardian or patient, it is optional to present this notification to the practice at the time of the appointment.

What if my child is not eligible?

They can still join the Grow Up Smiling (GuS) program without expense from the school or parents’ pocket—but they must provide all the required information and records to the teacher on or before the stipulated date.

How does the $1,095 dental benefits work?

You can use the $1,095 benefit to cover your child’s needed dental services over two years.

If the funds are not fully utilised within the first year, you may spend them the following year, provided your child is still eligible. After the second year, any residual balance will not be carried forward or transferred.

Will I have to cover any out-of-pocket costs?

If your balance is sufficient to cover the fees for the day’s visit, you will not have to pay any out-of-pocket charges. Medicare will bulk-bill your claim; therefore, no patient co-payment is required.
